Sant Agapito 2022

Tom by River in Molise.

Our 2022 Italy residency was a combined work and exhibition stay. We were to continue on the taxonomy series in Pietro’s house in Filignano, Exhibit in St Agapito, and explore working with Casa Pleadi. Casa Pleadi is a rural combined cultural house and sustainable restaurant that is run by Lisa Esposito and Agapito Pila. In the kitchen, they use fermentation and other light cooking techniques with locally and regionally sourced produce. They also run, readings, film nights, talks in the restaurants and take part in cultural public events throughout the region to spread their knowledge about a slow, circular way of engaging with, buying, growing, and producing food to slow down carbon expenditure and create richer lives.

We made our exhibition at Casa and it was decided that we would return next year to continue exploring conversations and activities that pertain to the carbon cycle. Amongst other things, we agreed to try triangulating and facilitating contacts between the arts organizations we are working with for the next 2 years, such as Bergkvara Kultur Magasin, Dunoon Burgh Hall (where we will exhibit in 2024), and the different organizations we will get in touch and work with at these locations.
